And here shows up a very common moving scam to be careful of: buying furniture off the back of a truck. At first glance you may think you are getting a bargain but in reality this is not true. Usually you will hear a knock on your door and someone will offer to you furniture in a truck parked right outside your door with a special, exclusive “offer” – to get it on a discount. But with this discount you may be still given a price that is in the range of thousands of dollars. The truck or/ and the furniture may carry the marks of a particular furniture company or the people who sell it may claim they work for a particular famous company but don’t fall into the trap: you may end up spending unreasonably high amounts of money on something that is with very low quality and unclear made. And once the truck is gone, you have given your money to those people and you contact the company they claim they come from the truth comes out: the furniture company sells things only at stores and you’ve been scammed. Choose to buy furniture only from trustable sources: stores or online. And always check the furniture company: go their store, warehouse or showroom.
If you encounter the problem on the spot, right during the sale, you will get the promise of the problem being fixed or parts of the furniture being replaced on a later stage. When you are interested in purchasing something like this for your home go to the stores, ask to see the office, the showroom, you can even request to be taken to the warehouse. In this way you will be better informed of the company, how it works and what policy it has towards its customers.
Buying furniture is just one of the moving scams you may encounter. It is also possible that the name of the things you are being sold is very similar to a famous company name and if you don’t pay attention you may buy something with low quality rather than “the real thing”. Being careful, double-checking everything and asking questions is the right way to make sure things are going in the right direction with your moving.
