If you are from one of those people living in the 21st century, then you most likely already use Facebook and Twitter to find information that is relevant to you. When it comes to moving we all know how life-changing that could be. Being a Twitter user gives you one way to interact with the reputable moving companies, ask questions and discuss hot topics about the moving industry in general. If you would like to find out more information about this great option to chat with the most reputable moving companies in the industry you should check #Movechat on Twitter.
What is the Twitter #Movechat?
#Movechat is a new trend in the moving industry using one of the most popular Social Medias - Twitter, where moving companies and their representatives gather once every week for 1 hour to discuss hot topics and chat with other users that have questions and are seeking to find more information about moving.
How did the #Movechat began – a little History
This new trend started back in October 2010 when a couple of reputable moving companies decided to try a new way of communication with customers and other moving companies. After the first chat, it was obvious that there will be more chats to come every Tuesday @ 2PM EST (1PM Central). You can see the very first transcript of the chat here.
Who participates in the #Movechat?
The chat is hosted once a week on Tuesday at 2PM Eastern time. It is hosted currently by Portage Cartage – an agent for Mayflower Van Lines that is one of the biggest moving companies in the USA. Each week at the same time when the chat starts all participants introduce themselves and Portage Cartage starts with the 1st question of the moving topic discussion.
Regular participants of the chat from the moving companies side are: @HolmanMoving @XpressMovers @Maritime_Moving @seamlessmoves @MovePoint @AMSAProMover @RELORoundtable @MovePoint and of course @MyMovingReviews. All of them are companies and organizations with years of experience in the moving industry.
How to join the #Movechat
In order to be a part of the #Movechat experience you need a Twitter account and basic Twitter knowledge, so you can follow all tweets “movechat” hash-tag (#).
For your convenience there are many tools that allow you to do that easily. The most common and used one is Tweetchat. The first thing you need to do when you open Tweetchat is to authorize your Twitter account and start following the “movechat” hash-tag(#).
From that point on you will be able to see all tweets that include #movechat in their tweets.
There is an article from Portage Cartage on their blog of how to use Tweetchat’s free service.
This is a new way of communication between moving companies, customers using Social Media tools and services like Twitter and Tweetchat. It also shows the efforts that the moving companies are making to improve their online reputation and at the same time to help and educate people about the moving industry.

This is James from Portage Cartage here. Thanks for this great post! Slight correction on your description of us: we’re a Mayflower Van Lines agent, not United Van Lines. The two van lines have common ownership but operate independently.
#Movechat is a great resource for movers and consumers looking for free information from social-media savvy professional movers who will actually read & return their tweets. We’re not trying to sell our services with the chat – we view it as a public service, and it’s a great way to network and share best practices.
Hey James, thanks for the clarification. Thanks for the great idea about the #movechat. It is getting more and more popular. I will make sure we participate in the next week’s movechat in Twitter.
Hi everyone,
This is Vasi form E-Z Movers Inc. and I just want to say that we will be happy to join the discussions on Tweetchat every week! We are located in Chicago and will be happy to share experience and expertise.
Besides joining through Twitter, is there anything more specific that I need to do in order to join the chat?
Many thanks,
Vasi
E-Z Movers Inc.
Glad we can help make the movechat community even bigger. All you need is a twitter account and you are in. See you there on Tuesday!
