Review on Colonial Van Lines

Rating: 1 Star Moving Rating, Posted by Leslie Rodgers on Feb 03, 2012

I booked this move with a BINDING contract of 1797.00 BINDING. I was informed that this was based upon WEIGHT, which was guesstimated to be 3010 pounds. They took my deposit. QA called me to verify the legitimacy of my "furniture"...I do not know about you but I am an Occupational Therapist, so to me, "furniture is not "BOXES, LAMPS, ETC. I was informed by the QA guy that I had to wrap in zippered containers all my matresses and box springs, package my TV's, etc. which I was not before told. So now, not only have I, at 1:00pm not been picked up because they "OVERBOOKED," everything I own is in boxes and it is Superbowl weekend here in Indpls...think I can find a hotel?? Additionally, they are planning to charge me MORE for their mistakes. I want to cry, and am stuck. They are "trying"to find me another driver but so far I have heard nothing. I e-mailed them yesterday explaining that I had far more than 25 boxes...GOT NO RESPONSE BUT YET I AM RESPONSIBLE. "What you signed was an "estimate" I was told, ONLY this AM!!!! Someone was supposed to contact me yesterday and I got no call. More expense is well worth going through this hell. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE experience.

I spoke again today 02/03/2012...pick up day, with Donna, Teddy, Denise, and the QA representative Sean. Again, I was placed originally on a binding contract for 1797.00 and 3010#. I have 65-70 total boxes plus furniture for a 2 bedroom apartment. I should have packed 100# industrial sized boxes had I known I was then going to be charged from a binding based upon weight vs. boxes understanding an additional 1000.00 would be in order!!!! All I own fits in a U-Haul, and they are talking about a tractor trailer??? My set day for pick up was to be today, 02/03/2012. I was told I would hear from them on 02/02/2012, no response. I emailed my rep and said I had way more than 30 boxes though given that I interpretted this to be a WEIGHT based move, and since I never received a response, I assumed this wasn't of concern as long as I fell into my weight restriction. So, they upped my weight, costing me an additional 689.00 in deposits, now totaling nearly 1600.00 with a potentially remaining 1000.00 pay upon arrival. They have backed up my move now to on or before 02/08/2012, though had I not called myself this am as I awoke ready for their arrival, this I would have never known. Now, I am living in a fully packed up apt. and pending a job in TX...which now has to be backed up as well. I read the BBB grade for this company to be a D-, dishonesty, lack of communication, timeliness, etc....additionally extra fees here and there beyond originally quoted. Upon researching further, I have been reading the horror stories with regard to the use of this company. I am thinking legal advice is in order. I'll be calling them every day. My pick up date is now 02/08/2012 or before as I am on the "priority list"....we will see. I have pictures of everything included in my move, and though there may be more boxes, there will not be 4000#. I am thinking legal intervention may be in order.

Colonial Van Lines Company Response

Official company response to Leslie Rodgers's review:

We have reviewed your submission and located your account in our database. We noticed unfortunately that we weren't able to execute your relocation. We do appreciate your business and we regret that we were unable to perform within your requested moving dates and to hear of your displeasure in the interaction between you and our company.

The moving industry is one of a dynamic and unpredictable nature. Our contracts are drafted with this in mind as stated in the Terms & Conditions included in the documentation your received during your booking process. We make every effort in performing our customers' moves within the estimated moving dates as contracted and try to accommodate our customers despite circumstances that occur beyond our control but unfortunately at times our efforts prove futile. If we are unable to render services at the end of the contracted date, our customers can either accept an offer to be picked up at a later date which we ensure is convenient for them or they have the right to a full refund of their deposit if they decide to dismiss our services. Your signed Terms & Conditions indicates our 5 day cancellation policy which seeks to inform that during this period, prior to your moving dates, if a customer requested to dismiss our services, they therefore forfeiting their right to a full refund of their deposit. Your account reflects that your order was canceled at your request and a full refund of your deposit was to be issued in efforts of customer service as your account was canceled within the window. Management had overrode this policy but due to the charge back received in office this process has been delayed and we ask that you do allow us to try and resolve this for you.

Colonial Van Lines will like to apologize for the unsuccessful efforts in providing services for your relocation and the inconveniences it may have caused. We will keep a record of your posting as we value you your shared feedback and it will definitely assist in our current efforts of improvement to our company entirely. We do hope you will allow us the opportunity to redeem your faith in our company if the opportunity ever presents itself in your future endeavors. You are welcome to contact our office in regards to this response at 1-855-820-6918. Our team is at your disposal.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

The Office of the President.
