We had a very bad experience with the move with significant damage to our belongings that the moving company is failing to recognize and satisfactorily compensate us for. Notwithstanding their strict liability, the move was highly unsatisfactory and does not meet any reasonable expectations for the care of our belongings during a move. Although they say that they deny any claims they paid out a small amount of compensation. We have a garbage can of shattered ceramics although they were packed in bubble wrap, two pieces of furniture that were taken apart, broken and not put back together and missing pieces from a bed and power washer. The movers rushed away assuring us that all of the damage would be looked after, which is definitely not the case.In selecting AMJ Campbell we relied on published information and information from their sales representative. We did not purchase additional insurance from them since we did not think that it should be necessary in order to get reasonable care of our possessions during the move. We have found that we should not have had any confidence in their representations. The AMJ Campbell web site http://www.amjcampbell.com/about-us/ says: “We are committed to making your move as smooth and as stress-free as possible. We want you to be completely satisfied with your experience. In fact, we guarantee it.” Their web site http://www.amjcampbell.com/about-us/the-amj-campbell-commitment/ includes the following: “When you choose AMJ Campbell, your satisfaction is guaranteed. We've looked at the most common frustrations when it comes to moving and from this, developed the AMJ Campbell Commitment - our commitment to the standards you can expect from one of the best moving companies. With AMJ Campbell you are guaranteed: Settlement of any damage claims within 30 days Reassembly of any furniture that we disassemble in order to pack Professional, courteous work crews Excellent customer service” An email message accompanying a survey that we received on July 3, 2012 after the move included: “At AMJ Campbell Van Lines we are "Dedicated to Exceptional Personalized Service" and with your help we can continue to improve and enhance our levels of Quality Service. ” Although we reported dissatisfaction with our move there was no response. A moving company has a duty to take reasonable care of the goods while they are in its possession. They are an insurer of the goods and liable for damage to the goods. We found that they did not take what anyone would consider as reasonable care of our belongings and certainly did not meet their published standards. The move was not professional since the staff had no regard for the standard of service or our satisfaction. AMJ Campbell staff misrepresented how they would care for our belongings and make good any required repairs. The sales representative Chantal Cook assured us that anything that they took apart to move would be put back together. This was not the case. The legs of a table were taken off in order to fit it in the moving van. When the legs were brought out of the truck they were broken and they were left broken and unassembled. An antique dresser was taken apart for the move including removing the base and two decorative columns on the bottom. These were not reassembled. The base is in the garage where it was left and the other parts in the bedroom. A part from an antique brass bed, which was disassembled, went missing and has not been found. In order to get us to believe that everything would be all right so that we would pay the movers on completion we were told that all damaged items would be made good and damage would be repaired. There was some damage to walls on Thornton Avenue. We saw the movers drop a box that they were loading at Thornton Avenue, one that was marked fragile. This was probably the broken kitchen items listed below. It appears that many of the boxes were dropped or mishandled since items that were carefully wrapped in bubble wrap were shattered to pieces. When we talked to Sales Director Paul Paquette at AMJ Campbell, he said that no items should break when boxes are dropped. This is totally unreasonable. Additionally we were dissatisfied with the move because the movers rushed way from our Belleville house. We paid an additional charge of $500. to be moved on the holiday weekend but received poorer service. A lot of items were dumped off the truck into the nearby garage, items which were clearly marked for other locations in the house. They left paper and garbage from their truck in our garage as well. We are providing a list of articles which are damaged, missing or not reassembled: dresser not reassembled table legs broken and not reassembled part missing from brass bed which was disassembled part missing from power washer broken glass shade from desk lamp box of six broken figurines and ornamental items, all wrapped in bubble wrap ceramic bowl broken corning wear and pyrex cooking dishes shattered ceramic pitcher broken dessert plates broken
