Review on Statewide Van Lines

Rating: 1 Star Moving Rating, Posted by Kate on Aug 26, 2011

I chose Statewide Van Lines out of 7 moving companies I researched because Lilly was the only one that could say with 100% certainty that my things would be delivered to South Carolina on Thursday 8/18/2011, or Friday 8/19/2011 after a pickup date of Saturday 8/13/2011.

First of all, my things were picked up in Florida over 24 hours late. I said I was concerned with the delivery date still being on time. Again, both Lilly and now the pickup driver, Dan (Egyptian decent) had assured my mother and I that I will most definitely still receive my belongings on Thursday or Friday, as previously promised. The pickup drivers however, became slightly frantic that all of my things would not fit onto the truck, even though every item was listed verbatim on the inventory list originally provided to Statewide Van Lines via email and phone. It APPEARED that everything had fit into the truck, though. It was after they had left, that my mother and I noticed a leather bench of mine (provided on the inventory list and paid for) had been moved to the other side of the living room, behind her couch. How nice of them... NOT.

Anyway, once I was in South Carolina, neither my mother nor I had heard any word from Statewide Van Lines. We had phoned them both Wednesday 8/17/2011, and Thursday 8/18/2011 only to finally be told by Rudy (supervisor) that my there was a delay and I would have my things either Sunday 8/21/2011, or Monday 8/22/2011. Once again, I heard no word from anyone with Statewide Van Lines. I phoned them on Monday 8/22/2011 and spoke with three different people, who kept transferring me to someone else. I ended up speaking with a Samantha, who told me she spoke with her supervisor and said that my things would be delivered Wednesday 8/24/2011, or Thursday 8/25/2011. I told Samantha that was not acceptable and that I would like to speak with her supervisor. Samantha informed me that he was on the phone. I told her I would hold for him. Samantha then placed me on hold for several minutes, then came back on saying her supervisor was now in a meeting and would be leaving straight after and would not speak with me that day. I was appalled that the supervisor would actually refuse to speak with a 25 year old girl. I asked Samantha what her supervisor's name was, she reluctantly told me "Rudy" and promised me that he would return my call first thing the next morning.

I waited until 10:30am on Tuesday 8/23/2011 to hear from them. Again, no one called. I phone Statewide Van Lines again, and asked to speak with Rudy directly. Rudy then came on and informed me that I would receive my things before Saturday 8/27/2011. I reminded him that he had promised my mother and I 5 days prior that I would have my things by Sunday or Monday. He unapologetically informed me that my things were in storage in Georgia, but I will most definitely have them before Saturday 8/27/2011. I told Rudy I was having trouble believing him, and he gave me his word, saying "I promise you will receive your belongings before this Saturday" and that someone will be phoning me 24 hours in advance of my delivery.

Again, I heard from NO ONE by Thursday 8/25/2011. I phoned Statewide Van Lines again, asking to speak with Rudy. Samantha came onto the phone again, telling me he was on a phone call. I told Samantha that I had heard that before, but that I demand to speak with him. Rudy came onto the phone, informing me that I would receive my things Friday 8/26/2011, or Saturday 8/27/2011. I reminded him of his PROMISE that my things would be delivered to me BEFORE Saturday 8/28/2011. Rudy then actually asked me, "Well, what do you want me to do?" I informed him that HE is the supervisor, and suggested SOMETHING be done. He said he would call me right back. Rudy then called me back 3 hours later, saying my belongings could be delivered to me that night (Thursday), but it would be around 10:00pm. I accepted.

The delivery drivers showed up after 11:00pm, and the only one that would speak to me spoke mainly Creole, and knew very little English. He said he is from New Jersey. As a 25 year old single woman, I felt very scared to be faced with these men at such a late hour, but knew I had no choice. Thank God I had a male friend my age to be here with me. The delivery driver demanded payment before taking anything out of the truck. THE NERVE. I reluctantly did so, having to make my money order out to a "Spirit Van Lines" that had a New Jersey address. I asked why this wasn't Statewide Van Lines any longer, but he could not tell me, as his English was so poor. I assumed Statewide Van Lines hired a 3rd person party to deliver my things to me. I asked him to show me on the contract where it said I had to provide payment before my belongings were taken out of the truck. He could not do so, as he is unable to read English. He had no problem signing the contract, though. He then demanded a glass of water before getting started. He and his partner were finally finished by 1:30am Friday morning 8/26/2011.

I am disgusted by Statewide Van Lines' unprofessionalism, lack of accountability, and down right rudeness. This was the worst experience of my life and am sure when I say, I WILL NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN. And unlike them, I KEEP my promises!
