I signed (unwillingly, through a broker company that my employer suggested) a a bill of lading and a binding estimate for a move from Omaha, NE to Boston, MA with North America Transfer of Simi Valley, CA. The broker company (Global Relogistics of Ford Lauderdale, FL, that subcontracted them for the move) had already received a hefty down-payment, more than 50% of the initial quote.
After a total lack of professionalism and communication on North America Transfer's behalf and a 4-day delay in delivery, they show up at my new home requesting more than double the price, claiming 'heavier items'. In fact, they modified the bill of lading AFTER I had signed it. When asked for a freight weight report, they were unable to produce it. When offered to pay the amount reflected on the binding estimate, they refused to relinquish my property, failing to honor our contract. We had to call the police, who unfortunately stated they could not do anything, as this was a civil matter.
When I called the company's manager, Adi Peretz, he employed mafia-like tactics, stating that if I don't pay the full amount he requested, he would put my items in storage and eventually auction them off to keep the profits. When asked for his full name, he declined to provide that information and hung up. I found out about him through the web!
Please avoid these crooks/scammers at all costs!
