Moving Scam - Moving Review

This company operates a pretty slick scam. I ended up paying $2,000 for a local move in which I brought my own 17 foot truck. All these guys had to do was load and move the big stuff. I figured 4 hours would do it. They ended up charging me for 9 hours. I felt lucky I didn't end up paying closer to $5,000.

Here's their scam - they deliberatly bring an undersized truck for the move. I did not realize until unloading that the truck wasn't even empty - it had other furniture on it!

They then make a big deal about you understand that you have to pay for packing materials. I though OK - a little tape here and there - no big deal.

After an hour into the move where almost no furniture had been loaded, I checked and saw they were shrink wrapping EVERYTHING - even mattresses and unbreakable items. This of course took a LONG time and used lots of material.

I figured out the game at this point and told them to only wrap items made of glass. When unloading, I told them to only place the furniture in the room. We would unwrap and re-assemble. I had my wife and friends help peel the tape off their padding material. When the leadhand started to take a door off it's hinges to get a sofa in, I told him to stop and directed a faster way.

They punched a hole the size of a CD in the ceiling. When I called to see what they were going to do about it, initially they said they would fax a claim form and take care of it when I filled it out. Next day, the guy says they are not liable for "nicks and scrapes".

You have to pay before they unload the furniture but they overestimate the time it will take them. They say you will get a refund. When they calculate the refund, they round up the time spent to the highest half-hour.

Overall, this is a VERY dishonest company. Stay away!
