After signing a contract with Colonial and then reading these reviews I nearly had a heart attack. It turns out that my moving experience wasn't as bad as many others' experiences, but it was not without bumps in the road. From the beginning, I did not like the feeling I got from the "move consultant" Alexandrer Frimerman. He continually called me when I asked him to give me a few minutes to provide him with credit card information. Then, after the contract was signed, he never called me again. I called him multiple times to ask him questions about how to pack, etc. and he did not return my calls or messages. To my further dismay, he guaranteed me that my belongings would be in Chicago on the 5th of July, or the 6th at the latest, and I got a call from the company to which they subcontracted my move saying that it would be there the 7th or the 8th. I called customer service because Alex would not return my calls. After waiting for a while, the service representative told me that I had to be available any hour at any day during the 3 weeks that they allotted as a move in time even though Alex told me those dates were only in case of some natural disaster or mechical failure. Basically, the representative told me that Alex's word meant nothing and that I was out of luck. However, there was a happy ending to my moving experience. I called the company who Colonial hired to actually complete my move and was treated with much more respect and care. I explained my situation to the manager, Jeff at Relo Van Lines, and told him that even though my contract said I would be available until the 17th that I was only available until the 7th because I was flying out of town on the 8th. He told me not to worry, rearranged the drop off times on the truck carrying my belongings across country and guaranteed a four hour window in which I could expect my goods to arrive. He, as any respectable business person should, told me that his job was to make the move as least stressful as possible for the customer. Also, everytime I called the company back to check in, I was immediately connected to him without having to wait for ask for him. In the end, as promised my goods arrived 5 minutes before the four hour window began and the men moving my goods were extremely nice and everything arrived in perfect condition. So my advice would be to hire Relo Van Lines or another company that actually transports the goods rather than a company that subcontracts moves to other van lines. Cut out the middleman - cut out Colonial.
