I was quoted $420 for a move from a 4th floor 2 bedroom loft, (1 bedroom was an office), to a ranch-style house 13.5 miles away. It took the movers 45 minutes to move 42 boxes out of the apartment to the truck using a reserved elevator. It then took them an additional 4 hours to load 4 sectional pieces, 1 king size bed, 1 chest of drawers, 2 nightstands, 1 bench, 1 mirror 2'x5',2 console tables, 1 loveseat and 5 bookcases with the use of the same elevator, large enough to handle several items at once. That's right it took them four additional hours to move 18 pieces of furniture and 5 pieces were damaged. Gray Moving and Storage move me in this building with the benefit of the same elevator and they were able to move me in and set up my furniture in 4 hours and they charged about $400.00 two years ago. None of my furniture was damaged. With US Vanlines, my matress was drug from the truck along my walkway to the door and consequently dirtied and torn in two places. My mirror was apparently handled improperly which broke the hanging wire and busted the frame. My loveseat was ripped in two places on the back. One of my sectional cushions were not covered as promised and dirtied. One of my bookcases were bumped against the elevator doors, while the movers argued "the best way to load it", and dented on the front and the side. The hardwood floors in my new home was damaged by one of the mover setting down a piece of the sectional withoutthe legs and sliding it across the floor, after being warned against such by the job's foreman, whom incidently were the two arguing earlier. The ceiling of my new home was damaged by the same mover and the third mover trying to decide the best way to stand the bookcase. I deeply regret not using Gray Moving this time, but I had several things going on and didn't get back to reserve the date in time. The US Vanline workers all blamed each other and even argued with each other during the job. When I asked to speak with someone in charge, the foreman called the owner who shifted responsibility to the supervisor, who shifted responsibility to the worker and ultimately to a "claims department". Needless to say. no one took responsibility that day. I'm going on to try a claim with their "claims department", and see where that goes. THIS EXPERIENCE WAS HORRIBLE! I found the US Vanlines located on McCree in St. Louis, Missouri to be absolutely horrible. They lacked professionalism and integrity from the owner, who yelled at me to give the phone back to his employer who had called him to help bring a resolution to this horrible ordeal for me. His blatant disregard to even listen to me as a patron of his business was reprehensible. The worst part is I paid $840, double my "they'll be able to get you out of there in 3 hours, they are professionals", quote for terribly inferior service. I AM EGREGIOUSLY DISSAPOINTED! I intend to continue pursuing this issue.
