Terrible Service - Moving Review

Review on Alliance Worldwide Van Lines

Rating: 1 Star Moving Rating, Posted by Kathryn on Sep 28, 2012

At first I was impressed with this moving company.  They worked with me to reduce cost and walked me through the process quite clearly.  They arrived to my house ahead of schedule to pack up my belongings and the movers were nice and went quickly.  The issues started to arrive once they were delivering my goods back to me in Washington.  The manager who packed up my belongings in Colorado called on a Tuesday, stating that my boxes would arrive during the weekend, with a 24 hour notice from the driver. He also stated the final amount I would have to pay on my bill. I told him that was fine, but when nothing arrive on Saturday, when they told me my stuff would arrive, I called the manager and receieved no response.  I also called the customer service lines for the moving company and received no reponse.  On Tuesday evening, around 7:30 PM, the driver called me to say that they would be arriving in Woodinville between 1 and 3 PM and I told them that was okay.  It was a bit late to nofity someone of arrival, but I was able to work out having someone meet them at my house.  The next morning, the driver called me to say that he was having some trouble, and would not be arriving until later.  I tried to get an estimate about when, but he just said he would call me back and let me know.  Since I work full time, I did miss a few calls, but always called back within 30-45 minutes of a missed phone call from the driver.  Eventually he told me that he would arrive sometime in the evening or the following day.  I explained to him that the following day would be difficult because I work full time, and my parents who were waiting for them on Wednesday had to work as well.  He promised me he would come in the evening, probably after 5 PM on Wednesday.  Prior to leaving work, we talked around 4:00 PM and he still assured me that he would deliver my things to Woodinville that evening and call when he was 30 minutes away.  I gave him my parents phone number as well so they could be reached.  At 9:45 PM, my mother called to say they still hadn't arrived and could not be reached.  I attempted to contact them 5 times with no reponse.  My sister called from their phone and immediately answered.  The driver explained that it was my fault they couldn't deliver because I had missed a call, even though they never attempted to call my parents or my phone, and during our last conversation they promised to still deliver and would call within 30 minutes of arrival.  The driver then said that he would come on Thursday between 1 and 5 PM.  I asked him why he hadn't called me to inform me he was no longer going to come tonight, and he gave me 2 or 3 different stories with excuses.  I explained to him again that no one would be home during that time because everyone was working, and he got upset, stating again that this was my fault.  I told him he could come after 5 PM, but I was incredibly unsatisfied because of all these delays.  I attempted to call the manager, 3 times on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with no response or clarification.
On Thursday I had not heard anything from the movers, and called them prior to leaving work around 3:30.  The driver stated he would be there between 5 and 5:30.  I left work early to meet them, and at 5:45 PM received a call from the driver saying he would now arrive sometime before 7PM.  by 7:00 the drivers still had not arrived, so I called to see their status.  They called to say they were 11 miles away, and would be there shortly.  By 8:30 they still had not arrived, and my father called them to again check-in (our house is in a rural, dark area, so we knew there might be some difficultly finding our house).  They said they were around the corner and be there shortly and to have patience, again giving us 2 or 3 stories about why they were late.  around 9 PM, the drivers arrived and I had my dad work with them because I was fairly upset.  We gave them our money order, for the amount I was told the previous week and the driver told us it was not enough.  He gave me a copy of the reciept I had signed during my pack out, and told us we owed another $20 dollars.  I looked at the contract, and someone had used white out to change the balance to a higher number.  I showed the driver the reciepts of all the payments I had made, proving that the money order was for the correct amount.  He insisted that I owed what was on the contact, and called his manager.  It took 45 minutes for them to figure out that I was in fact right, and the contact was not accurate.
The truck as a mess when they unloaded my stuff, but luckily nothing of mine was damaged.  After unloading the truck, after all the confusion and poor service, the driver told me that I wasted my money moving my belongings and that I should have moved my own things.  It was incredibly unprofessional, and completely innappropriate to talk to a customer that way--especially after the way I had been treated.
I will never, ever use this moving company ever again. While I can understand moving takes time, this crew of people consistently lied and never kept me informed.  I was constantly blamed, questioned, and ignored by this whole company.  I have attempted to call managers, customer service, and the driver and have had most of my calls and voicemails ignored.
