Universal Express Ripped us Off - Moving Review

We originally contacted UNIVERSE EXPRESS Moving & Storage to get a quote and cost estimate. We provided them with a detailed list of all furniture and items required to be moved and approximate number of boxes. They told us that it should take about (3) hours for the complete move and that it would be $392.00. This seemed like a reasonable price so we gave them a $100.00 deposit.

We had a scheduled moving window from Between 12:00PM-2:00PM on October 1, 2011. They were very late and did not show up until 4:30. Because of this, we had to wait around for them.

When they did finally show up took a very long time packing stuff up. They then told us that there were additional fees because they had wrapped a bedroom mirror and a dining room hutch. When they were done packing the truck, they left and we left after them. We got the apartment and they were not there. We sat there and waited for another 20-30 minutes until we saw them drive by the new apartment. After about 20 more minutes had passed and they did not show up yet, we decided to give them a call. They said they were down parked on a street around the corner. We asked them "well why you didn’t call us?” They did not have any explanation.

When they finally showed up at the new apartment they took a long time unloading the truck. When it came time for them to reassemble our expensive dining room table, they could not find the (8) bolts and hardware. They then blamed us for throwing them out. We spent a bit of the time looking through the dumpster and didn't find the bolts. After they had left the bolts were found in a box the movers had put them in and forgotten about. We had to reassemble the table by ourselves.

While moving the movers chipped and damaged one of our dressers. The then tried to say it was like that. We have since found the broken little pieces on the floor under the dresser where the movers had obviously damaged it.

When it came time to pay up, the movers went through the bill with us. They added on fuel surcharges and other fees, including an extra hour for them to drive back to their office. The final bill was $750.00. This is 91% higher than their original quote to move this little apartment of stuff. I argued with these guys and didn't feel like I should pay. In the end I had to go to the ATM and get the cash and pay them. We were clearly taken advantage of. The movers didn't leave get "done" until 10:15PM at night. They billed us for 7 hours total.

Do not ever use these crooks. You will be sorry like we are.

Also, the three hispanic movers spoke in spanish and was saying very inappropriate and sexual things about my girlfriend and her friend and thought we couldnt understand them, but we did.
